Job Summary:
The Nursing & Nutrition Manager is responsible for leadership over the Nursing and Nutrition programs. This position is responsible for planning, developing, and leading these departments in alignment with our agency mission. The Nursing & Nutrition Manager partners with Children’s Service Management team, Transportation Manager, ABA Manager and Therapy Manager to ensure programs are collaborating to provide high quality services and programs for children and families. They serve as an advocate for the children in the programs and ensure that they have opportunities and services needed to reach their full potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervisor Duties:

Department Leadership:

o Oversees Nutrition department in providing nutritious meals that are culturally diverse and meet the therapeutic needs of our students.
o Leads the Nurse department in assessing the health needs of students from intake through graduation.
o Train, supervise and lead staff in nurse and nutrition departments o Conduct annual job performance evaluations for all direct reports.
o Coordinate the education of new in-center staff on child health & safety related areas.
o Collaborate with Transportation & Facilities Manager for risk management related to child safety at Sunshine. This includes red backpacks and emergency procedures.
o Plans and facilitates department meetings.
o Participate in staff development and training activities based upon an individual staff development plan updated annually. o Promotes a culture of mentorship by serving as a point person for schools looking for internships in related programs.
Cross-Department Leadership:
o Partners with Admissions Coordinator for student health and safety needs during the intake process.
o Attend team meetings as appropriate and communicate child health & safety related information to staff.
o Attend relevant Children’s Services Meetings as needed and provide relevant child health and safety information for placement considerations.
o Partners with philanthropy on any related grant opportunities.
o Coordinate annual staff training at agency training day.
o Meets regularly with the Director of Children’s Services.
o Coordinate CPR and First Aid classes at Sunshine School.
o Analyze trends in incidents/accidents
o Collaborates with leadership and executive team to develop and implement current infection control practices based on public health needs.
Financial Leadership:
o Collaborate with Director of Children’s Services in creating yearly department budgets for Nursing and Nutrition.
o Monitor and maintain department budgets.
o Track any grant spending related to departments.
o Partner with the finance department in any related billing.
Other duties as assigned
Nurse Specific Duties:

The Nursing & Nutrition Manager may also act as a practicing nurse, as needed, who provides health services to children in the center to enable them to participate in the developmental program within the scope of practice under the Nurse Practices Act.
As a nurse, this job is accountable for following the nurse code of ethics.
Attend meetings with families of children who need a Health Care plan as needed.
Develop and monitor Individual Health Care plans for children with medical needs.
Oversee training of appropriate staff on Health Care plans.
Provide health treatment and care to children as specified on their care plans:
Monitoring vital signs and lung sounds
Administering medications
Providing alternative feeding (tubes, etc.)
Attend to minor injuries/accidents
Provide consultation and education to staff regarding the health needs of children
Certified Trainer for CPR and First Aid

  1. Registered Nurse with current Arkansas License and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or working toward this license.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in supervising and/or administration preferred.
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  4. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children preferred.
  5. Background clearance with The Child Abuse Registry and Arkansas State Police.
  6. Physical requirements – must be able to:
    Remain stationary for extended periods of the time.
    Operates computer, copy machine, printer and other office equipment repeatedly throughout the day.
    Communicate information effectively and accurately to varied individuals and groups.

    Days/Hours: This position is based on the annual in-center staff calendar. Additional hours/days may be required to meet the needs of the agency. Hours for this position are 8 hours per day Monday-Friday to be scheduled between the hours of 7:15 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. as agreed upon with supervisor.
