A Heartfelt Thank You to Arkansas’ Early Childhood Professionals

Dear Early Childhood Professionals of Arkansas,

As President of the Arkansas Early Childhood Association, I have the privilege of witnessing the remarkable work you do each day, and today I want to pause and recognize the extraordinary impact you have on children, families, and communities across our great state.

In the gentle guidance of a toddler’s first steps, in the patient explanation of why taking turns matters, in the celebration of a child’s first written letter, and in thousands of other seemingly small but profoundly important moments, you are quietly shaping Arkansas’ future. Your work may happen in colorful classrooms and on playground mats rather than corporate boardrooms but make no mistake—the returns on your investment are immeasurable.

Each morning, you greet our children with warm smiles, even on days when you’re tired or facing your own challenges. You create environments where curiosity thrives and where children feel safe enough to explore, question, and grow. You notice when a child seems different than usual and respond with compassion. You celebrate developmental milestones that parents might miss while at work. You are, in many ways, the eyes, hands, and heart of our entire community as you nurture our youngest citizens.

What you do requires extraordinary skill. You seamlessly blend your knowledge of child development with creative teaching strategies. You manage complex group dynamics while still attending to individual needs. You form meaningful partnerships with families during some of the most important years of parenting. You stay current on research and best practices, often pursuing professional development on your own time and sometimes at your own expense.

I see your dedication when you:

· Spend your weekends gathering materials for Monday’s activities

· Use your lunch breaks to research how to better support a child who’s struggling

· Stay late to speak with a concerned parent

· Comfort a child who’s having a difficult day

· Celebrate each small victory with authentic joy

· Advocate for the resources your children and programs need

The work you do is not just about today – it’s about building stronger families, more resilient communities, and a more prosperous Arkansas for decades to come. Research clearly shows that for every child whose life you touch, you’re helping build stronger brain architecture, emotional regulation, and learning foundations that will serve them throughout their lifetime.

I know that your profession comes with significant challenges. The compensation rarely reflects the true value of your work. The physical and emotional demands can be exhausting. The public doesn’t always understand the complexity and importance of what you do. Yet still, you show up. You persist. You excel.

Please know that your work matters profoundly. When a child learns to recognize letters, when they successfully navigate a conflict with a peer, when they discover something new about the world—these moments represent your handprint on the future.

On behalf of the Arkansas Early Childhood Association, the parents who entrust their precious children to your care, and the communities that will benefit from your influence for generations to come—thank you. Thank you for your expertise, your patience, your creativity, and your heart.

You are seen. You are valued. You are essential.

With deepest gratitude and respect,
