Last month, all over our state, early educators hosted special events to celebrate the children and families in their communities as part of Arkansas Children’s Week. This month, on May 9th, across the nation, we turn our attention to you — the educators who nurture and guide our youngest learners every day.

We invite you to celebrate Provider Appreciation Day by inviting others into the work you do through the stories you tell.

Why Stories?

As early childhood educators, it doesn’t take long to build a rich story bank. Some stories are joyful and heartwarming; others carry the weight of real challenges. These stories speak to our relationships with children, families, coworkers, and our own growth as professionals. They empower us, connect us, and remind us of our shared purpose.

Stories help us see what we might otherwise miss. They offer windows into other lives, helping us imagine, empathize, and connect. When we share our stories, we create sparks of hope for others, and we invite them to experience the depth and importance of our work.

Stories are powerful tools for advocacy. Think of how Mr. Fred Rogers stood before Congress and shifted hearts with his calm voice and heartfelt storytelling. We believe your stories hold that same power—to move, to teach, to change minds and hearts.

Now It’s Your Turn!

Whatever is stirring in your heart—a memory from the past, a reflection from today, or a hope for the future—we want to hear it.

Here are three ways to get involved:

  1. Share Your Story
Send us a short video or written story about how you are celebrating providers and the vital work you do. Email us at communications@arkansasearlychildhood.org or message us on social media (Facebook or Instagram). Please note that when you share your story, you give AECA permission to post it on our website, social media, and other promotional materials.
  2. Amplify Our Voices
Follow, like, comment, and share the stories we post from the AECA board and other educators next week over on our social media pages. Spread the word so your friends, family and colleagues hear about how vital early childhood education is!
  3. Attend the Town Hall
Join the upcoming Town Hall hosted by Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families to learn more about proposed federal budget cuts that will impact critical services like Medicaid, SNAP, housing, and Head Start in Northwest Arkansas.

Win a $100 Gift Card!

We will be drawing for a $100 Lakeshore gift card each day next week, Monday, May 5 – Friday, May 9, from the pool of submitted stories. Don’t forget to include your name, program name, contact email, and phone number with your story.

Let’s celebrate our profession together. Your story is powerful. Your voice matters. Let your heart be heard!

With deep appreciation,

Zephonia Avant
