Hello friends!

As we welcome May, I’ve been thinking about how this month has always carried a sense of celebration. When I was growing up in Northern Maine, May Day was a special time to celebrate the signs of spring’s arrival. A time of flowers, small surprises, and sweets shared with friends in May Day baskets, dancing around May poles with ribbons, and the feeling that spring had truly arrived.

May has long been a season for noticing beauty, sharing joy, and marking new beginnings. And May still brings so many celebrations. We celebrate graduations and the hard work that leads to new chapters. We celebrate Mother’s Day and the care that so many give every day. We celebrate traditions like Cinco de Mayo, culture, resilience, and community, and we’ll pause on Memorial Day to celebrate those who have served and sacrificed.

This month is full of moments to notice growth, and in early childhood, growth is everywhere. It’s in the child that now walks in confidently, in the teacher that’s found new patience and skills, in the director who has led through challenges, in the home-visiting professionals that feel more connected to families, in the trainers and coaches who have watched participants bloom with new confidence, and also in the systems that have learned to share and trust each other more deeply.

Sometimes meaningful growth happens so gradually we almost miss it. So this May, I hope you’ll pause long enough to notice it. Notice the growth in the children you serve, in your workplace, and please, notice the growth in yourself. At Arkansas Early Childhood Association, we always are celebrating you and the important work you do every day. I’m wishing you a joyful and meaningful May, and as always, I’m cheering you on.
